Who We Are
Wellness & Development for Women in Sierra Leone (WDW-SL) is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering women and girls and uplifting communities through programs that promote health, dignity, and sustainable development.
Founded to address barriers in healthcare, education, and economic opportunity, WDW-SL works at the intersection of gender, health, environment, and empowerment — ensuring women and girls have the tools, skills, and voice to lead change in their families and communities.
Our Vision
A Sierra Leone where women and girls are healthy, empowered, and leading positive change in their communities.
Our Mission
To empower women and girls in Sierra Leone through holistic programs in health, sanitation, environment, and sustainable development — fostering dignity, equity, and resilience.
Our Core Values
- Empowerment: We believe in unlocking the potential of women and girls to lead and inspire change.
- Integrity: We act with transparency, accountability, and respect.
- Sustainability: We design programs that create long-term, community-driven impact.
- Collaboration: We build strong partnerships that multiply our impact.
- Compassion: We serve with empathy and a deep commitment to human dignity.
Our Focus Areas:
🩺 Health & Wellness
We promote access to quality healthcare services for women and children, with a strong focus on maternal, reproductive, and child health.
Through community health education, preventive care, and mobile outreach, we work to reduce preventable illnesses and improve overall well-being among women and girls — ensuring every woman has the right to live a healthy and dignified life.
🚰 Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)
We increase access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation facilities, particularly in underserved communities.
Our hygiene education and menstrual health campaigns empower women and girls with the knowledge and resources to maintain good health, reduce waterborne diseases, and live with dignity.
🌿 Environmental Sustainability & Climate Action
We support women- and girl-led environmental initiatives that build resilience and promote climate-smart solutions.
From sustainable farming and reforestation to renewable energy and waste management, our programs help communities adapt to climate change while protecting Sierra Leone’s natural environment for future generations.
💪 Women’s Development & Empowerment
We invest in women’s and girls’ education, leadership, and economic empowerment.
Through literacy programs, vocational and entrepreneurship training, and access to microfinance, we equip women to achieve independence and lead change within their families and communities.
We also advocate for gender equality and representation in leadership and decision-making spaces.
🤝 Community Partnerships & Advocacy
We believe sustainable impact requires collaboration.
By partnering with local communities, government institutions, and international organizations, we strengthen networks that support women and girls.
We also advocate for policies and systems that protect women’s rights, promote social justice, and drive long-term community transformation.
Our Impact Approach
At WDW-SL, our work is rooted in community participation, empowerment, and sustainability.
We believe the most lasting solutions are those created with, not just for, the people they serve.
We engage directly with women, girls, and community leaders to co-design initiatives that address real challenges — from maternal health and clean water to education, climate resilience, and economic opportunity.
Our approach ensures that every project not only meets immediate needs but also builds skills, confidence, and ownership within communities. By strengthening local leadership and fostering collaboration, we help create lasting transformation that continues to grow across generations.
